Literature Text

Our story begins in a small town, where a young pink female hedgehog lived. Her name was Amy. Amy Rose. She had pink fur, jade eyes, and always wore a cute red dress with a white outline at the bottom. She skipped her way onto the town she knew and loved, humming and singing a little tune to herself as she did.

“Little town
It's a quiet village
Every day
Like the one before
Little town
Full of little people
Waking up to say:”

She entered the town, hearing every yell good morning before going about their business. And she did the same, thinking it was the polite way to do. Everyone has been warm and inviting to her, always smiling and asking her for help. She felt sometimes so welcomed to be in her believed town. It made her feel so happy to hear people talk about her kindly. But there was something else that made people talk about her a lot. Ever since she came here, she was known as somehow, “odd” or “different” because of who she was or what her father did for a living. People compare her to themselves or others that were better than her. At least that’s what she thinks. But she thinks it’s also because of what she loved. She loved to read. And for a woman, reading was simply…well, odd. Although it sadly pained her, it didn’t really matter what everyone else thought. It was something she loved to do, and that didn’t seem like a crime to her. Not only that, it was something to pass the time with every now and again. A group of people see her walking to a nearby library and start their daily gossip again.

“Is that Amy?” One woman asked as she watched her head inside.

“Amy? Amy Rose? The inventor’s daughter?”

“No, the pretty pigeons across the street, yes her!” She snaps. “Isn’t she lovely?”

“And odd,” Someone says to her. “Always daydreaming about stupid fairytales that never come true, it’s just a simple daydream. And the worst part is that she’s always having her nose stuck in a book! It’s not right for a person like herself to do that.”

“I agree.”

“The only thing she might find in those daydreams of hers is probably a couple of new parts for her crazy father!”

They all laughed.

Amy skimmed through the shelves of book before looking out the window and see’s them laughing, and already knew that they were talking about her. With a sad sigh, she turned away from the window and continued her way through the enormous amounts of books. Many of them she’s already read numerous times and others she really didn’t care for. She pursed her lips in thought and lifted a finger silently naming the titles of each book cover spine. Her jade eyes paused as she eyed on a certain book and immediately grabbed it with haste. It was her most favorite story. About a princess looking far and wide to find her true love until she finally realizes that her true love was in front of her the whole time. Sometimes she would picture herself as the princess looking everywhere for her long lost lover. It made Amy just giggle with excitement. She hurried to the front desk and rang the bell. An old man that works there see’s her and comes to the front desk, his hair peppery white as his beard, and his hands carrying the precious books he had just received not too long ago. His green apron was stained with splatters of ink as well as he brown pants. He set the books aside for a moment and gives her a warm smile.

“Ah, hello there, young lady,” He greets in kind and present tone. “What can I do for you?”

“I’m here to check out this book, please!” She says, giving him a smile. She handed him the book she deeply treasured.

He examined the book in his hand. “T-This? You want this book?” He said in a humorous laugh. “But you’ve already read this one twice!”

“Oh, I know! But’s so good! I can’t put it down!”

He chuckles and hands her the book. “Well, if you like it all that much, it’s yours.”

“But sir-”

“No, no. I insist.”

“Oh, thank you! Thank you so much!”

She grabbed the book quickly and ran out of the store. It was her most favorite story, or at least she claimed. Amy knew that they were just stories, but to her they were much more than that. She leaned against a brick wall, opened her book and began to read. A few feet ahead from her, was someone she didn’t expect to see. Girls started to swoon over Scourge, the huntsman. He had green fur, black boots as well as a leather jacket and had two scares on his chest. Some say it was from an accident while he was out hunting, others say he claimed those scares by fighting a pack of vicious wolves. Only Scourge knew the truth though he would never tell. Scourge was known as an experienced huntsman of course, but he was to self confident, ruthless, cruel, and bitter. And it was once in a blue moon when he showed his true potential. Once in a blue moon that is. Anyway, he continued to show himself off his good looks and charm.  They giggled squealed and laughed at the sight and batted their eyes at him.

They knew he was playing around with them, but it was still fun to be around him, and that’s what Scourge was attending to do. He gave a smirk and a wink to a girl that started to jabber on and on about him, until he saw something that caught his eye, Amy.

A sly smile spread across his face as he stared at her.

“Sorry, ladies,” He said as he rudely pushed them aside. “I have to run.”

They pouted as they watched Scourge leave them and go to Amy. He fixed his quill, straightened his jacket and leaned his hand against the wall almost startling Amy.

“Why, hello Rosy.” Scourge said with a smile as he grabbed her book from her hands, making her gasp in statement. “Pleasant day for a pleasant girl like yourself.”

“Oh, hello Scourge.”Amy replied, trying to make herself look as friendly as possible. She knew Scourge for a very long time, and he defiantly wasn’t her type. Nothing could become of him and her. Scourge however, saw a more different approach. And Amy knew what his game was. Amy tried to grab the book from his hand but he turned it away from her so he could examine it for himself.

“Scourge, may I have my book please?” Amy said in a low tone trying her best not to get angry.

“How can you read this?” Scourge scoffed as he skimmed through the pages. “There’s no picture!” Annoyed by the book, he threw it over his shoulder and let it hit the stone road not caring what would happen to it.

“Well some people use their imagination.” Amy replied as she pushed away from Scourge and grabbed her book, brushing the dirt off the cover.

“But it’s not right for a woman to read,” He argued. “Soon they start getting ideas and…thinking and then will be all out there.”

Amy glared daggers at him as her anger level went up a notch. She always disliked Scourge, and she’ll hate him even more if he starts to criticize her on what to read and what not to read.

“SCOUGE!! HEY SCOUGE, OVER HERE!!”

They turned to see his sidekick, Bean, running towards him. Bean had green feathers and was as cruel as Scourge, but when Scourge got the attention he only got the acceptation of being looked upon as a sidekick. He followed him everywhere, even when he’s out hunting and was ordered to carry his newest prizes for him. Bean ran up to the two, holding a leather sack full of things that belonged to Scourge but clumsily tripped over a lone string that snagged out of the sack. Scourge groaned as he helped his trusty side kick up to his feet and snatch the bag out of his hands.

“Bean you fool! Watch where you’re going!” Scourge snapped as he glared at Bean. “These are my trophies, and if any of them get ruined by your clumsiness, I swear I’ll-”

“Relax, Scourge.” Bean said as he gave him a salute. “Nothin’ got ruin and broken, just a little snag in the sack that’s all. See? Can’t hear anything at all!”

To prove his point, he shook the bag. Scourges trophies rattled and shook, making Scourges eye twitch slightly.

“Bean-”

He stopped in the middle of his sentence to see Amy walking away from the two clutching the book in her hand. Scourges expression grew into a worried one as he watched his catch get away.

“Amy, wait!” He plopped the sack of trophies back into Beans arms without warning causeing him to yelp in surprise and fall over.

“Where are you going?” Scourge asked as he ran towards her.

“Home,” Amy replied. “I’m going to see my father before he leaves for the fair today. I’m sure he’s going to win first place today.”

“Ha! You think that crazy nut is going to win the fair?” Bean laughed as he came to Scourges side setting the bag down to his side. “He can’t even tell what his lefts and rights are anymore!”

Bean and Scourge laughed in amusement.

“Don’t talk about my father that way!” Amy said in slight anger.

“Yeah, don’t talk about her father that way!” Scourge said and thumped the back of Beans head making him yelp.

“My father is not crazy,” Amy said with a huff. “He’s a genius.”

Just as she said that last sentence, a huge explosion of smoke suddenly bursted in the distance, making Amy dash down the street and towards the explosion as Scourge and Bean just laughed. Scourge laughed and thumped Beans head again for his enjoyment. He watched Amy run down the dirt covered road, chuckling to himself.

‘I won’t let you get away that easily, my sweet rose.’ He thought to himself with a
smile. “Bean, she’s the one.”

“What?” Bean asked as he stupidly laughed some more.

“She’s going to be my wife!”

Bean immediately stopped laughing and looked up at him, shock etched on his face.“But she’s-”

“The most beautiful women I ever saw!”

“But Scourge-”

“She deserves the best!” He glared down at Bean and pulled him to his face. “And don’t I deserve the best?”

“Of course you do but-”

“But nothing,” Scourge let him fall out of his hands. “She’s the one and that’s that! And I’ll do anything to get her! Come on Bean, we’ve got some planning to do.”
